Stainless stovetop in RV is rusting - what type of refinishing would work
I own a vintage Airstream travel trailer that has a 4-burner stovetop in it - the stovetop appears to be made of a stainless steel type of metal (someone told me they are actually a stainless alloy). The stovetop itself and the metal rings that go under the burners are quite rusty. I cleaned them with steel wool and got rid of much of the rust, but it returned after a Winter of non-use. I'd like to replate the metal in some way. One person suggested a porcelain coating... what exactly is this? Do you think it would be the right refinishing process for this job? I'm looking to do the stovetop and the burner rings. Any advice or leads would be appreciated.

You should never use steel wool on stainless steel. You are putting iron on the surface which will surely rust. There are ways to get rid of the rust safely with products in the hardware store. The best solution to get it done and have it stay clean is to take the parts to a plater and have them electropolished.
