Who's had success using explosive deburring for fine blanked sheet metal details?
Hi, my name is Jim Floroski, Manager of New Product Development for a major aerospace company. We produce vacuum brazed assemblies from thin sheet metal details. Many of the parts are fine blanked from .005 thick Inconel 625 sheet. The blanking produces fine, raised burrs that we remove manually with a deburring tool. The sizes range from 3" x 5" to 8" x 27". The quantities may be as high as 60 of these details per assembly. I'm thinking batch explosive deburring might be an effective alternative. Is there anyone with a similar product that's using this process? Can you tell me who makes this type of equipment? I'm not too concerned with recast layer but I do need minimal distortion. Other ideas for automated deburring would also be welcome.
Thank you.

Hi
I'm sales manager at a sub contractors specialising in just thermal deburring. Your scenario might work, but it's pushing the limits of thermal deburring. We are always cautious with thin sheets as they do have a tendency to buckle, however saying that with the correct fixture exposing the edges and acting as a heat sink, this can be overcome. We always suggest sampling as a means of finding the best solution/settings.
