Procedure for polishing stainless steel
I AM INTERESTED IN TAKING A 304/316 STAINLESS BOLT OR NUT AND POLISH IT SINCE FINDING THEM LOCALLY SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE. I HAVE A CLASSIC CAR THAT REQUIRES CHANGING MANY DIFFERENT SIZE BOLTS, NUTS, WASHERS (RUSTING AND PITTING) AND WANTED TO TRY POLISHING STANDARD STAINLESS MYSELF. WHAT DO I NEED TO PURCHASE AS A D-I-Y? THANX FOR THE INPUT.

You would need buffing wheels and buffing compounds optimized for stainless steel. Ask the suppliers which color compound they suggest for stainless. However, I disagree that stainless fasteners would be hard to find. They should be readily available: look for companies specializing in offering stainless fasteners, as opposed to a local hardware store. Good luck.
