Chrome Plating is a term used to describe a layer of chrome , usually over another layer of Bright Nickel for decorative functions. Usually the Nickel goes on first, followed by Chrome.. Chromate ( Chromating) is a term used to describe a chemical coating of zinc-chromium compound over a zinc plated layer. Chromating is done over Zinc, Aluminum and Magnesium to protect it from the atmosphere. It is best to have your principal specify the finish in clear terms.
