Use of copper gaskets against aluminum
I HAVE A HOT WATER FURNACE AND THE BOILER IS ALUMINUM. IT HAS A STAINLESS STEEL PLATE WHICH IS BOLTED TO THE CAST ALUMINUM BOILER WITH A GASKET IN BETWEEN. MAINTENANCE REQUIRES THE REMOVAL OF THE PLATE TO HOSE THE CORROSION FROM THE INTERIOR OF THE ALUMINUM BOILER ANNUALLY. IT IS THE AREA WHERE THE FLAME IS. THE GASKET IS VERY FRAGILE AND BREAKS [NO MATTER HOW CAREFUL YOU ARE] AND I WISH TO FABRICATE A GASKET FROM COPPER. WOULD THE COPPER AND ALUMINUM BOILER CREATE ANY PROBLEM? THERE ISN'T ANY WATER IN THAT AREA.

I bet that you will wish that you had not done that. Try thin sheet Teflon for a gasket. One example would be United States Plastics in Lima Ohio. They have a web site so you can see prices, thickness and areas. Or, use your favorite search engine for Teflon.

When aluminum contacts brass or copper, it immediately starts to corrode, especially in the presence of water.
