A. You could try caustic soda ⇦liquid caustic soda in bulk on Amazon [affil link] solution as the solvent and sodium chlorite solution as the oxidant. Am not sure of the effect on silver so keep an eye on it.

Q. I am an engineer in the plating industry. Currently I am working on a project that requires silver plating as the final finish for electrical contacts. The customer wants selective tin plating on certain parts of the contacts and I need a tin backstrip that will strip flash tin from bleed out but not discolor or strip the silver. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Kate

A. Hi Kate,

You may try MSA base immersion type tin stripper which shall not attack silver.

David
