What equipment is needed to recover silver from our wastewater
Q. We are doing Silver plating and recovering silver from effluent. What kind of a furnace can we use to melt silver powder recovered from wastewater generated? Does it need a fume extractor?

A. It's much more practical to put the recovery equipment on the rinse tanks following silver plating than to mix and dilute this rinse water, chemically treat it, and then try to recover it. Consider an electrolytic recovery unit on the first rinse tank after plating. This can plate out relatively pure silver metal. Lacking that, ion exchange can be applied on that tank and the resin burned to recover the silver values.

Q. I have about 12 pounds of electrical contacts...I am told that they are made up of the following: 42% silver; 27% cadmium; and 31% nickel. What is the best way to recover the silver?...is it worth the time to recover the cadmium and nickel and by what method?
thanks
