Maintaining appearance of metals in marine environment
Q. I work in the leisure yachting industry. The responsibility of ship-shape presentation of the yacht leads to endless cleaning and polishing of all items onboard (interior and exterior) including an array of metals and finishes (e.g., Stainless steel, chromium plating, titanium, anodised aluminium). Not being an expert on the subject, I am looking for some professional and impartial guidance on definitive techniques and product types to maintain these finishes and not hasten their demise through endless enthusiasm to obtain a shine and deal with corrosion. Can anyone direct me to where I can get the advise I need.

A. Unfortunately, different metals are different metals. And this means that a cleaner or polish that is great for one metal can be destructive to another. Aluminum is very susceptible to damage from cleaners and polishes. The closest to a "universal" safe and effective polish for all metals that I have personally used is Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish ⇦ this on eBay or Amazon [affil links]
