Stainless 302 Vs Stainless 12 R 10

Q. We have received some pumps for packaging pharma products from a French firm. Our specification calls for 302 Stainless Steel return spring, and the French have supplied a pump with a spring identified as Stainless Steel 12 R 10.

The US distributor claims they are equivalent. Can someone knowledgeable on the subject confirm? The issue is urgent.

Respectfully,

First of three simultaneous responses --

A. 12 R 10 is a Sandvik in-house designation for type 302 stainless. Just depends on what country you're in, which designation system you use - remember that the AISI 3-digit type number (302 and many others) is a USA code that is not much used in Europe. So your material is OK.

Second of three simultaneous responses --

A. 12R10 is the internal designation that Sandvik uses for their Type 302 wire. You can find out more information by visiting the Sandvik website.

Third of three simultaneous responses --

A. 12 R 10 is Sandvik's trade name for 1.4310, or what in the US would be called type 302. Check out Sandvik's site at www.smt.sandvik.com for more information.
