Chart for corrosion of mild steel with sulfuric acid
Sir,
Do you have any data on corrosion of mild steel with sulfuric acid , with changes in temperature of the acid? Preferably some chart? We pump 98 to 99% sulfuric acid at 40 to 90 °C through MS pipes and we need this data.

Hi Pradee,
Am not sure but I don't think you'll get a chart like you want.
I would personally be not so afraid of the temperature but scared witless if your concentration dropped. .... that's when sulfuric tends to become very aggressive with metals. Even an airlock (i.e., raised horizontal pipe with a 90 degree downcomer) will definitely cause problems in the long term. Have you checked at all with the suppliers of your sulfuric?

If you are sending sulfuric acid for long distance, I prefer to increase the concentration of acid. Try sending 100 to 105% H2SO4.(Per sulphate). It is cheap.
