Friction of chrome plate is much higher than lit reports
We have done dry friction test in Pin-on-disc apparatus to find out the friction coefficient of Hard chrome plated disc (1000 HV) with hardened steel pin (750) HV). Surface finish of disc and pin are kept below 0.1 Ra. Consistently we are getting friction coefficients around 0.6 instead of 0.2 as per literatures. What could be the reasons for this high friction coefficient in lab testing. Same values attained for different loads and sliding velocities.

Sorry that no one experienced in this has responded, K. It seems to me (having no experience with that apparatus) that it almost surely must be out of calibration. Have you tested other materials? Actually 0.2 is at the high end of the published literature; I've seen 0.16 in print.
