Stripping of black oxide
Dear sirs,
We do black oxide coating on ferrous metal repaired parts. The black oxide finish shall be meet the requirement of AMS2485. If there is any property fails to meet the requirement , our repaired parts may be stripped and do black oxide again. Could you please advise us on how to stripping the black oxide coating that does not roughen, pit , adversely affect part dimensions, or embrittle the basis metal? Can we use hydrochloric acid 25-31% for stripping this black oxide, please advise ?
Thank you for your kind cooperation in advance.
Your early reply are highly appreciated.
Best regards,

Hi, Malee. letter 3974 suggests that your HCl solution will be the way to go unless you are black oxiding hardened steel, and it implies that blasting is another approach. Good luck!
