Black oxide is very commonly applied to power transmission components like gears, sprockets, couplings, and shaft collars, and is rather attractive looking. But the corrosion resistance isn't much. Keep it well oiled like an heirloom rifle, and you might be satisfied with it. See our FAQ about black oxide.

Black E-coat is becoming a reality in India. Machine manufacturers have started using it. You can try that option.

You can try with MOS2(Molybedinum sulfide ) coating. Some MOS2 chemicals can be diluted with water and directly applied on surface of the metal. you can also remove the coating from the coated parts easily by water.
