Gold plated means that a skin of the element gold or an alloy of gold has been electroplated onto the substrate. Gold anodized means that an aluminum item has been anodized and then dyed with a dye that approximates the color of gold.

Can you tell me regarding the subject of gold plated & anodized gold, which is the better of the two? i.e. which will last/look better longer?

It really isn't possible to answer that question, Michael, but I could put it this way: watches and jewelry are gold plated, shower doors are gold anodized.
