Nickel Plating of self tapping screws
We electroplate fasteners, both zinc and nickel plating. There are environmental restrictions on use of copper cyanide bath for copper coating prior to nickel plating.I have tried to avoid copper coating by improving the cleaning operation but nickel coating between the finer pitch threads of hardened(heat treated) self tapping screws do not give good results. What is it that I should do to improve the throwing power of the nickel in the bath so that better nickel plating is achieved within the threads. As an alternate, can you also please suggest a cyanide free substitute for copper coating prior to nickel plating

A proprietary copper pyrophosphate plating bath may be the answer, Qazi. Vendors include our supporting advertisers EPI / Electrochemical Products Inc. [a finishing.com supporting advertiser] and Zinex. Good luck!
