Restoring Ice Cream Parlor style chair
I have taken the paint off an "ice cream parlor chair" and it appears to be copper underneath. I don't know if it's copper or some metal that's been copper plated. I'd like to know the customary material of these sorts of chairs (from the 1950's I believe) and how I should best deal with restoring the chair. If it's copper plated and I sand will I ruin it? I am a total novice here.

It is probably copper plated steel, but a magnet will easily reveal if it is steel. Sanding is probably bad for it.
