To Paint or to Lacquer
Have a setting with four chairs and a table. Either outdoors or indoors. The frames are made of either wrought iron or iron and each chair has two finials made of some type of cast iron or aluminum. These are about 50 years old. They were originally painted enamel green but is not peeling. The question is after removal of paint what are some good options for restoring them. That is by repainting or clear lacquer etc. Please advise as wife would like them done in some type of clear form but does not know which would be best.
Thanks for you help and info.

A clear lacquer should work well. Lacquer is used on exterior lighting, sculptures, and automobiles.

You might want to check into having them powder coated clear, powder coat is about the most durable "paint" (not really paint) surface you can have, and will last well beyond(read in decades) normal painting.
