Good Reference Books for Electroplating

Current question & answers:

Q. Hello,
I have used these forums off and on throughout my career to assist with exciting plating problems and to gain more insight into certain aspects of plating and finishing.

One of the hard to find books for my library is "Garden State Branch AESF Electroplating Course Manual". Is there a location to get a digital copy or known way to obtain a physical copy?

A. Hi. It is indeed a great intro to all aspects of plating, but unfortunately it may not be available :-(

Sadly, there is no digital copy because it was done on an electronic typewriter in 1986 shortly before computer word processing became a common office thing:

2982-1

Further it has no ISBN so it's hard to hunt for. For many years Tilton Rack & Basket in Fairfield NJ was selling copies at the cost of printing, but it would surprise me if they were still doing so all these years later -- although you could try e-mailing jtilton@tiltonrack.com or phoning 973-226-6010.

Worldcat.org lists two copies of this version and one copy of an earlier version in the libraries of the world. Maybe some day books.google.com will cover it but not yet.

Luck & Regards,

thumbs up sign Hi Ted,

Thanks for the info and reply. I reached out to Tilton and will see what happens.
Being a younger generation in this industry- some of the literature is harder to find these days and many of the books have the best tribal knowledge for troubleshooting when things go bad.
Thanks again for the reply and for the forum!

Q. I want one or two good reference books on electroplating which should cover the basic principles of all the plating process as well as some guidelines for trouble shooting. Any ideas?

Usually available on eBay;

sometimes on
AbeBooks or Amazon

free pdf is currently available from academia.edu

A. If I could pick only one, it would have to be the Metal Finishing Guidebook.
If I could add a second, it would be the Garden State Branch AESF "Electroplating Course Manual". See our "Must-Have Books" page for further info.

A. Hi Rupesh. Virtually every plating textbook has a chapter on gold plating, but for more complete coverage, the only book I am familiar with is Reid & Goldie's "Gold Plating Technology".
