Alodine 1200S Shelf life

WE HAVE SOME OF THIS PRODUCT, Alodine 1200S ON OUR SHELF AND NEED TO KNOW WHAT THE SHELF LIFE IS. We have a can with 1995 and 1998 vintage. This product is being used on aluminum parts. What would be the lead time if we need to order some of this product?

Thank you,

Henkel is the supplier and can give you the name of a local distributor, as well as the lead time. They may have advice on the shelf life, but it would surprise me is a chemical like that wears out. In any case, use any stocks of chromate-bearing chemicals while it is still permissible. There are pressures from all sides to ban them.

You may also have customer requirements. We are a subcontractor for Boeing. While there usually is no manufacturer shelf -life requirements for aluminum conversion coating material, BSS7002 (Storage of Time and Temperature Sensitive Materials) establish a 12 month shelf life and storage conditions.

We purchased Alodine 1200S in a bulk container for spot touch-up. Each year we face the issue of a shelf life/expiration date. Does this chemical expire? It's my understanding as long as the container isn't contaminated it has no shelf life.

If I am coating an airframe in certain areas with Alodine that has been expired for over 4 years with no lab testing to make sure its chemical properties are still activatable. Would this cause my primer coating and top coat to flake down to the bare metal?
