WIRE DESOAPING
Q. DEAR SIR,
WE ARE A WIRE DRAWING COMPANY MAKING WIRES OF STAINLESS STEEL. WE HAVE A PROBLEM WHICH IS THAT AFTER WIRE DRAWING WE MUST CLEAN THE SURFACE FROM THE LUBRICANT POWDER OR OIL AND SOME TIMES COATING COMPOUND USED TO HELP WIRE DRAWING BEFORE DOING BRIGHT ANNEALING. WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO USE KMNO4 SOLUTION, ALSO SOME READY AVAILABLE CLEANING COMPOUND, AFTER WHICH WE DO CLEANING IN NITRIC/HF ACID SOLUTION. ALL THIS PROCESSING IS DONE BY DIP METHOD. HOWEVER WE FEEL THAT THIS IS NOT up to THE MARK. CAN YOU SUGGEST SOME BETTER METHOD OR PROCESS.

A. A number of companies in-line clean using nitric acid, with surfactants, etc.. So the wire is cleaned, rinsed and then goes into the annealing furnace in line. For removal of calcium based lubricants a ultrasonic transducer can be used.
