Burnished steel look for iron
We produce iron lighting fixtures and are searching for a way to produce a "burnished steel" look by applying some abrasive or corrosive in a controlled manner and then rinsing it with the result being patches of abraded areas on a mostly polished iron to give it an antique look. Would black oxide or muriatic acid work?

I think there is confusion in your question. Burnishing is basically the lapping of parts with a non-abrasive material to produce a smoother surface finish by weight and/or compression. You mention abrasives and then coating/plating materials. Please clarify.
