Preventing Brass/Copper Contacts from Tarnishing

Q. We are the Micro switches manufacturer facing the problem of Tarnish on Brass/Copper components. To avoid Tarnish, we have planned to do for Lacquer coating over the terminals before Blanking. I would like to know the suitable cost effective and better performance lacquer material, supplier name, Cost, Coating thickness and coating method. Please help.

A. Why bother with Incralac this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] , when you can purchase the finest lacquers available?

A. Mr Rajagopal,

Have you considered Chemical Passivation of a Non Chromate variety. These enhance the life and prevent corrosion, and are conductive, unlike the lacquers. There are a number of Copper and Brass anti-tarnish chemical dips available.

A. I agree with Asif. Since the components are electrical contacts, they need to be electrically conducting. A lacquer coating will give an insulating layer.

Cheers.
