Creating a homemade plastic coating setup
I would like to know if it's possible to create a small plastic coating setup in my shop to coat aluminum or steel tubing. I'd need an assembly which could coat a 3-4' long tubes about 1-4" in diameter, and a bend of not more than 2'. I'm looking to have a Dip-bath type to provide a plastic coating of different colors to proceed with a project I am working on. Has anyone done this successfully?
'm thinking about just melting down some vinyl, althogh I don't know how to do it yet.

Not knowing the end use limits the validity of suggestions. The simplest would be a heat shrink tubing. Next would be an air dry vinyl coating similar to what is used on plier handles for home application. The stoutest one is plastisol. This requires attention to detail and an oven of sufficient size. This is not as easy as it sounds, but is doable.
