Salt spray test on anodizing coating for 2014

2004

We have conducted salt spray test as per ASTM ASTM B117 for 336 hours ( angle 6° ) on material 2014 with anodized coating and it failed the test. We have done few times but the result is still the same. The panel showed pits all over the test panel surface. We have monitored closely all the steps during anodizing process and always ensure the water break condition. Has anyone faced the same problem like us? We are really appreciate any comments.

Thanks,

First of two simultaneous responses --

Are the sample sealed? What is the coating thickness? Type of anodizing? I think you should provide more info before somebody could give a better response.

Second of two simultaneous responses --

Use the search engine at this site. This subject has been covered many times and in decent detail in some.

If the panels you speak of are unsealed they will almost certainly fail salt spray test. Try sealing the anodic coating in de-ionised water at 96 degrees C for 30 mins and conduct the salt spray test under the same conditions.

Thanks for your info. We found out that we did not carried out the sealing process.
