Protection against stress corrosion cracking of H13
I work for a company that manufactures specialty nuts for large rotating machinery. One application requires H13 tool steel in order to provide the required strength. The application also requires protection from galling. We currently use ferritic nitrocarborizing (FNC) to protect from galling. One application poses the possibility of stress corrosion cracking (SCC). Does the FNC layer provide significant protection against SCC? Or should we be considering another coating?
