What protects nails from rusting best in different solutions?

My name is Tyler, I'm in the 5th grade and I want to do my science fair project to see what the difference is on the rusting of nails in water and then in vinegar in bulk on eBay or Amazon [affil links] , using coatings of nail polish, hot glue and one with nothing, what is the outcome of this project?

You are very young, Tyler, so you may not know this yet, but you are supposed to do the experiment and present you results based on what you find. After you have done the experiment, that would be the right time to ask if the results you got were what should be expected.

I think you should plan on two weeks, and I don't think there's much chance of getting a reasonable amount of rusting in less than a week. I'd suggest putting the nails vertical, though, part in and part out of the liquid because I think the most rusting will be right at the water line.
