How do we strip kitchen pulls and hinges?

My husband and I are remodeling our kitchen and would like to know what to use on our cabinet's brass hinges and pulls to make them match our new stainless steel appliances? We are going to keep our old but perfect cabinets and to find hardware in their size is next to impossible!

It's possible that your hinges are solid brass, in which case they'll stay brass. They may be steel (you can test for that with a magnet), in which case they will rust if you strip them. And they won't look like stainless steel either.

I think what you would need to do is have these hinges nickel plated by a plating shop.

Ted is correct. The only option for brass parts is to have them nickel plated. If your stainless steel has a 'brushed' finish you can achieve a similar look on the nickel by rubbing it with a wet scotch-brite pad (green pot scrubber pad). Don't rub too hard though - you can re-expose the brass very easily. Also you will want to rub in one direction only to get a consistent look.
