Release coating for steel pultrusion die surface
I am looking for a hard wearing, low friction, release coating suitable for use on a pultrusion die to prevent epoxy resin sticking to the surface. Our current dies have a chrome plated surface (but could be stripped back to bare steel), are 2 m long and operate continuously at 200 °C. The coating would need to very hard wearing as there are high contact pressures (& therefore abrasion) of the carbon fibre/epoxy laminate slowly sliding over the surface continuously for up to two weeks. Currently, our epoxy resin accumulates on the die surface and we have not found a successful internal or external mould release agent. Would something like Tungsten Disulfide be suitable?

Electroless nickel plus the proper dispersed particles (either teflon, synthetic diamond or Moly) sounds like an option worth investigating. It has high hardness, abrasion resistance and compatibility with moderate temperatures.

I think sulfudation would be the best treatment for your parts. If you are still interested please write, and I'll write down the process.
