Electroplating tools using diamond
2004
Hello Sr.
Thanks for your time. I beginning to electroplating diamonds, but I have a some question. I want to make electroplating tools with diamond dust, but my question is How I can deposit the diamond dust in the tools before to start the electroplating (I'm using Watt bath)and before to introduce in the bath, is it necessary to stick the dust in the tools?, How can do this? exist other method?. I need to make a thin layer in the top of may tool I'm using diamond dust about 10 micras My tools is a wheel 5 cm diameter (the deposit is on all the surface

I probably sound like a broken record because I just answered a question about electroless nickel with PTFE the same way, but it isn't clear if you are simply trying to get the tools plated or develop a new process. If you just want tools plated, you should simply buy or license a proprietary process because all the kinks were worked out years ago, and you won't have to worry about prosecution for violating patents. If you are trying to develop something that exceeds the current state of the art, a good place to start is "Electrochemical codeposition of inert particles in a metallic matrix" by A. Hovestad and L.J.J. Janssen, Journal of Applied Chemistry, Vol. 25 (1995) pp. 519-527.
