Metal blackener

Hello,

I am building a 4x4 truck and saw a product used to blacken the metal, It was brushed on and turned the metal black and made a super strong finish. Some kind of metal blackener. Do you know what I'm looking for? I'm needing to know what this stuff is called or where I can get it or just some more information about it, thanks.

There are several types of blackening processes and chemicals. An easy and economical one for the home shop is called Tool Black. It works like cold-blueing for firearms. Most machine tool suppliers carry it.
