Questions about Ion selective electrodes for fluoride
I am starting a new position in a plating lab that is having problems with their ion selective electrode for the determination of fluoride. Am I right in assuming the solution is buffered solely with sodium acetate compound or is a buffered solution mixed with the sample? How much acetate do you use? Is there a rule of thumb or is there a calculation of acid base equilibrium or do you just add the acetate until a specific pH is obtained? What pH? Is the pH critical or is there a range? Does the electrode need to be conditioned in deionized water or a buffer solution when not in use?

That is too much to cover in a few paragraphs. Go to the electrode MFG. and ask for tech services. I know that Orion, now thermo orion, used to have a number of publications for different applications, free. Of course, they would like you to use their equipment and expendables.
