NEED HELP WITH REBLUEING PREPARATION

Q. I HAVE A MARLIN 30--30 THAT I USE IN DEER HUNTING EACH YEAR ( BAGGED A FEW WITH IT. ) I'VE DEVELOPED SOME MINOR SURFACE RUST NEAR THE END AT THE IRON SIGHT. I BOUGHT SOME BIRCHWOOD "COLD BLUE" this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] AND CANNOT FIND THE PROPER WAY AND COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO REBLUE THE ENTIRE GUN. I WOULD APPRECIATE COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS FROM SOMEONE WHO "KNOWS" METALS AND FIREARMS AS YOU GUYS DO. I'LL BE VERY CAREFUL WITH APPLICATION BUT A LITTLE CONFUSED ON THE PREPARATION ..

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE...

A. Cold Blue is not for complete gun bluing, just for touching up small spots. It is not very durable and long lasting. Gunsmithing supply houses sell chemicals for bluing, but it is a time consuming process. Your best bet is to have a professional gunsmith refinish your gun if it needs it.

A. Not sure about the cold blue, though. With Oxpho, you pretty much cover the part, and then rinse & oil it to stop the process when it is the right color.

I have had some luck with doing small areas (like trigger groups, barrel ends, etc.) with a product called Oxpho-blue ⇨
