Galvanic Action of DI (deionized) Water and Stainless Steel

I have read your reply to question # 17556. We are an O.E.M. for solar power production equipment. We currently use welded S/S water cooled chambers which reach internal temperatures of 1600 degrees C. Does the galvanic action of a welded chamber using D-I Water as a coolant, increase with temperature? Is it enough to penetrate welds after a period of time? Is it a function of the surface area as well?

The rate of essentially ALL chemical reactions increase with temperature. You did not say what grade of stainless steel you used, what kind of weld you used and whether it was electropolished or passivated. It is quite possible for the corrosion to occur if you have the wrong process and material, especially at this temperature.
