Repairing 12L14 pitted by stripping
We experienced some problems with a 12L14 material that we sent out for chrome plating. The plater had problems getting the plating to adhere to the surface. I read about the recommended procedure for plating free machining grades on this site, but the plater already stripped the parts causing them to pit. Is there any way of filling these voids after stripping and then have them re-chrome plated?

It depends on their function, among other things. If the plating is decorative, or if there are no specs prohibiting copper in the plating, you may be able to copper plate and mush buff the parts to fill the pits. Antique automobile restoration platers would be familiar with this approach.
