Copper Countertops

I'm wondering if anyone knows whether it's possible to nail or glue sheets of copper to an existing formica countertop. I want a copper countertop - but would like to do it myself. If so - do you know where to find the copper and what I need to ask for so that's it's easy to work with? Also is there a way I can give it an aged patina. I have a copper top dinning table from Mexico that has a wonderful aged look with several shades of copper and some black staining that covers it.

I'm also interested in using copper sheeting to cover my existing Formica countertops. Has anyone out there tried this? Please let us know how it works and the best way to do it.

This site is about industrial metal finishing and probably isn't the best place for that discussion, Rebecca. Some home improvement site would probably be better.

I just finished a do it yourself copper countertop. We bought a heavier gauge copper from a sheet metal seller in Portland Oregon. Had it fabricated to our dimensions and my husband glued it on top of existing formica. It was like setting a hat on top. We love it.

We are thinking about copper counters in our kitchen for simplicity and an old-world look. Is There any health reason or any care reason that it would not be a good choice? We realize it will turn dark and patina and we want that. Thanks for any input.

I am getting ready to order copper countertops for my kitchen. How hard will these be to care for? What will I use to keep them from spotting, tarnishing, etc.? Does anyone have experience in this matter?

Thanks,

We have had copper countertops for 4 years now and really like them. If you are into "perfect" you probably will not be happy with copper. It spots and shows rings, marks, etc. but that is just the nature of the product. I would be happy to show you our countertops if you would like. We are in Albuquerque and have the product with a few years wear on it.
