Reducing wear, tear and friction on yarn spinning traveller
2003
Dear Sir,
I am working in a spinning mill. I am interested in improving the life of the traveller in house. Traveller is a elliptical wire pc running on a steel ring through which yarn passes through. At very high speeds I don't get life of travelers. Is there any chemical process given with in our shed to increase wear & tear of traveller and to reduce the friction between ring and traveller.

Such parts are routinely chrome plated. You might also investigate titanium nitride or other vapor deposition process. You have not said what the traveller are made of at present.

For very small Travelers you can also look at Electroless Nickel Plating apart from Hard Chrome.

State of the art for those and other extreme wear applications is Electroless Nickel plus synthetic round diamond particles. This combination probably wears as fast as some PVD coatings like TiN but is usually applied in much thicker layers. About 10-15 times as thick. Some literature reports over 20 times the life of Hard chrome and 15 times the life of solid Tungsten carbide.
