Q. I have a formulation for the zinc phosphate metal finishing and I have problems in the finishing of the crystal. The appearance is not black or gray. I know my formula is not good. What can I do for making better my product? Can you help me?
Thank you,

A. Hi Luis. There are many good books about phosphating if you are looking for general background on phosphating bath chemistry. Each is hundred of pages because there is a lot to it.
But no one can venture a guess what might be wrong with your specific formulation until you tell us what that formulation is. Further, operational difficulties are not always the result of a poor formulation, but are often due to poor operation or control. Please give our readers a fighting chance to help you :-)
Luck & Regards,

Q. How do you make a Zinc Phosphate solution? Could you give me the formulation together with accelerators? Thank you.

A. You're welcome to ask, Wilfredo. But I don't think you'll get the answers you're looking for in a public forum. Getting a manufacturer of a formula which works to divulge his to the world isn't likely to happen. :-)
But what you can do, and what the major suppliers do, is to carefully study the expired patents on the subject. They will include claims which can help guide you.
Alternately, if you tell us your current formulation, hopefully someone will suggest a specific improvement.
Or you may wish to private label a manufacturer's proven zinc phosphating formulation. There are a number of suppliers of phosphating formulations, and you should be able to work out a licensing arrangement with one of them. Good luck.

Ed. note: We apologize to the readers that this particular thread doesn't seem to be going anywhere despite many thousands of readers visiting these pages daily. There are large books covering phosphate chemistry and hundreds of patents and expired patents which can be reviewed if anyone wants to seriously study the subject. And if a highly specific question is posted it will usually be answered.
But asking how to formulate fairly complicated process solutions which usually involve trade secrets, years of experience, and careful tradeoffs between economy, shelf life, versatility, operating range, robustness, and adjustments for specific applications is a bit like asking how to perform an appendectomy or how to build an airliner.
