Help with blueing brass
I need a product (in small quantity) which produces an even dark shiny blue-brown on brass. I used to use "Perma Blue" gun blue, but they changed their formula, and it now works only on ferrous metals. Do you know of any product which will give this result? I restore toy steam engines. Most early German ones had brass boilers with a "blued" finish I would like to replicate.

Mr. Simon,
My name is Bryan Iehl and I am the Manager of a metal finishing service in Waterloo, Iowa. In the past I have used a product by Birchwood Casey called Brass Black [Brass Black on eBay or Amazon [affil links] which may be of use to you. My company actually applies Dupont's Teflon on brass sights, and in my opinion is the only way to go.
Sincerely,
