Corrosion resistant plating and/or coating

I have read that the best plating process is copper then nickel then chrome for a good chrome plate. I need to know how to do this the cheapest way possible. The larger pieces will fit into a blue plastic 55 gallon Tabasco sauce drum I acquired at the Slim Jim plant in Raleigh, NC. Also if this is going to be too intense of a home project, is there an easier plating or coating method to prevent corrosion. This vehicle will be on the beach on the Outer Banks often.

Ed. note: For corrosion resistance you can paint the parts, Tracy; if done well, that should be fine. But copper-nickel-chrome plating is beyond the reach of hobbyists.

The simplest, cheapest and most environmentally friendly way is to take your parts to a professional, trade recognized, plating company. You will then get the quality of job you seek.
