Brian,

My first question is WHY are you using mild steel if you ... or someone else ... knew that there is a corrosion problem?

Also what is the temperature that this unit is exposed to?

For your info, which might give you some ideas, a chimney Company (Custodis Chimney) made/makes chimney liners from fibreglass (for example l2 feet dia x 200 feet high as in the Dominican Republic) using Hetron l97 polyester. Mfg. by Alcore in Richmond Hill, Ontario.

Hence, IF,IF,IF the temperature is not too high, then please consider lining the inside with fibreglass.

Corrosion of baghouses is a common problem when the combustion gases have high % sulfur oxide and moisture. The combination of heat, acid attack and abrasion is very severe. There is a new technology called FlueGard-225, successfully used in the cement industry in the US by a company called Penta Engineering out of St. Louis. The have made multiple applications in baghouses, ducts, fans and stacks with great results.
