Will residual amounts of CO2 in a closed aqua cooling system lead to corrosion?
Will residual amounts of carbon dioxide in a closed aqua cooling system lead to corrosion. At present molybdate is added as a corrosion inhibitor. Levels are maintained at >100pm as specified by the chemical provider. However, the 304 SS tubes in the heat exchangers within the system are experiencing corrosion. Is there a possible reaction taking place that is leading to this corrosion.

Maintain the pH on the alkaline side. CO2 can produce carbolic acid. Add sodium hydroxide to maintain alkalinity.
