Student asks the adhesion mechanism for rubber on glass
I am a student at University of Cincinnati working on a project of rubber to metal bonding using a plasma polymerized primer film. The metal I use is 70-30 brass and the adherent is Natural Rubber. I am getting good adhesion but I want to understand the bonding mechanism. Please reply if you have any insights.
Thanking you,

Usually a copper sulfide layer is required for good adhesion. You have to look into the composition of your substrate or may be you can increase some sulfur ⇦ this on eBay or Amazon [affil links] in the rubber compound during vulcanizing but it again depends upon the conditions and the final temperature of your curing process.

Sounds like you should be the one to ask re: plasma treated bonder sheets. Otherwise the internet is not short on adhesion theory - try Van der Waals bonding.
Good luck and keep at it!
