Student need to remove copper plating from pennies

Hi! I would like to know if their are any good sites about copper and pennies up to date. I would also like to know if their are any good ways other than using electricity to take the copper plating off of pennies, not the tarnish. I have already tried that and read a lot on your website. It has been very helpful. I need this info preferably in the next day. Thank you soooo much!

I was just wondering if you also knew about taking the copper plating off using batteries or something around the house. I was also wondering what is under the copper plating. I haven't been able to find much about pennies. Thank you!

Sandpaper will easily remove the copper plating from the zinc substrate, Ann. Zinc is silvery colored and you'll see it immediately.

The manufacturing of pennies is well documented at the US Mint web site.
