Tier 2 supplier wants to plate 303SS threads against galling
Q. We supply a 303 stainless steel valve that has a 1/16-27 NPTF thread that is installed in a 303 stainless steel port. When the two parts are assembled, there is significant galling of the threads. Are there any coatings that can be applied to 303 stainless to reduce the thread galling between the two parts?

A. Silver is what is used for this in the semi-conductor industry but would probably not be cost effective for auto parts.

A. Dry film lube might help. Switching to a hardened stainless might be an option if the OEM is agreeable and it is cost effective.

A. I do believe a dry film lubricant that is sprayed on may work well.
