Thickening the copper patinating solution
I want to turn copper leaf that beautiful turquoise patina color. The problem is that the copper leaf is on a vertical surface and when I apply the patina solution, it runs. Is there a substance I can use to thicken the patina? And do I have to remove the chemicals before applying a sealer?

I can't answer from actual experience, Ed, but Fumed Silica [affil links] is a relatively inert filler that is used in rather similar applications; and barium sulfide is another possibility. Good luck.
