Electroplating process

I am a university student in Istanbul and have to do a project about the electroplating process of nickel, chromium, zinc and gold. I would be very pleased if you can send me some information about these processes.

There are hundreds of threads of conversations on the subjects you mentioned here. Which particular threads do you want us to send you, Elif?  :-)

But seriously, Elif, your university library or the city of Istanbul library will have books about electroplating, and a university student probably should be finding the required info in authoritative texts. Please see our "must have" book list for some suggestions on which books to look for. Best of luck!

how about zinc/nickel electroplating? I need this kind of information too. normally this is a base coat for fluorocarbon coated bolts and nuts for offshore applications.

Hi, Mohd. Alloy plating is difficult because one of the metals is more noble and will plate out preferentially to the other, tending to give you an "alloy" of 100 percent noble metal and 0 percent base metal. To preclude this, zinc-nickel plating solutions require strong complexing to tie-up the nickel so the zinc will plate out along with it.

My understanding is that all zinc-nickel plating is done with proprietary solutions. A world leader in zinc-nickel plating processes is Dipsol, so you might start with them. Other suppliers can be found in our Directory of Chemicals & Consumables. Good luck.
