Chrome removal

I'm trying to get all my metal hardware in nickel -- that's not possible so I have to plate existing chrome, or Gold. It seems that most gold plating has nickel beneath it , I don't want to spend the money for gold plating , just to buff it off. My parts are very small and very few. I would be very happy to find something to strip the chrome so I can replate.

Hydrochloric (muriatic) acid quickly removes chrome without affecting the underlying nickel much.

David,

The Guru has spoken. He's right ... for that matter he's nearly always right! See # 12044 in the archives for more data on HCl.

Yes, hopefully I'm right 51 percent of the time. Trying to maintain that 51 percent, I find myself answering less frequently :-)
