Aluminum casting gas leakage problems

2003

We are manufacturing high voltage circuit breakers up to 400kv..Recently we found the gas leakage problems in the Al. casting which is 89 kgs in wt and 50 ltrs in volume size Requirement of ours is leakproof casting .

Allowed gas leakage is 6 ppm. Gas used for leakiest is Sf6 Gas. which is used in breaker also.

Q1- What must be the leakage reasons for such castings ?

Q2 -Can vacuum impregnation stop the leakages in the castings?

Q3- if yes..where can we do it ?

Regards

Dear Arun,

Impregnation will help you if the gas leakage from the al casting enclosure is because of porosities and not cracks .
