What is Mil-C-5541e class 3 "Clear"?

The surface finish requirement: MIL-C-5541 class 3 clear.
"Clear" mean "colorless", or "follow the metal color"?

Hello, Reid.
I'm not sure if I understand the difference! Clear chromate is colorless, so the appearance after chromating follows the metal color.
Best of luck

A colorless chromate on aluminum become very popular in the past year or so. Most of the jobshops in your area are producing a colorless coating on AL without an iridescence look at all angles.
Good Luck.
