Is hexavalent chromium on its way out?

Hello all,

My name is Michael and I work for a company who is a 3rd tier supplier to the auto industry. We also are diversified in many other areas. To my question.
We are thinking about putting together a small zinc plating line for finishing a new line of products in house. I have heard rumors that hexavalent chromium is going to be phased out nationally by 2007, but am having trouble finding actual documentation to support the claims.

Any insight anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Hello Michael

Hex Chrome is definitely on the way out.

Hit "European Union End of Life vehicle directive "on a search machine. The answers are there.

If the job shop is defined necessary set it up by all means , keeping in mind EPA guidelines as well as ELV restrictions.

Trivalent chrome is in for 2-3 years till maybe 2005 or 2006. By 2007 automotive industry will have its non chrome program in place and running. Then its curtains for any form of chemical chrome.

No Hex or tri. It will be Non Chrome thereafter, 2007 onwards.
